World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011081 Fresh new month Fresh+new+month World

A week ago we touched on the importance of defense, but the top three teams in our Power Rankings this week proved to us that a strong offense is equally lethal. Bayern Munich kept their winning streak alive with a stunning goal in the dying seconds, while Barcelona and Manchester City both scored five goals a piece in their latest outing. Without further ado, check out the rest of the top ten rankings this week:

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011083 Bayern Munich Bayern+Munich+ World

League standings: 16-2-0.

Last week's ranking: First.

Staring at their first league loss in over a year against Stuttgart, Bayern emerged comeback winners on Thiago’s brilliant goal in the final minute. Bayern now have a 13-point cushion atop the Bundesliga -- no team has ever held a bigger advantage before February. But once again, the offense looked weaker with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben unavailable, and struggled until the introduction of a true forward (two actually). Mario Mandzukic looks unhappy at the moment, but Josep Guardiola must realize that Bayern still need him in close games.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011080 Manchester City Manchester+City World

League standings: 17-2-4.

Last week's ranking: Third.

With a second thumping of Tottenham this season (they outscored Spurs 11-1 over the two meetings), City capitalized from Arsenal’s slip-up and took over first place in the Premier League. They surely have taken hold of the title favorite tag by now, and with a win against Chelsea on Monday, City can instantly gain separation from their closest rivals. Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero, who scored again on Wednesday, remains Luis Suarez’s only equal this season in the race for the league’s best player award.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011082 Barcelona Barcelona World

League standings: 17-3-2.

Last week's ranking: Second.

The offense is rolling again, but with a catch. Barca have scored 12 goals in their past three matches after managing just three scores in the previous three. The kicker: none of those 12 have been scored by Lionel Messi, though he did assist on four of them and sat against Levante on Wednesday. It’s an encouraging statistic for those who fear Barca can’t get it done without Messi’s steady flow of goals.

Editor's note: Barcelona stumbled to a 3-2 home loss against Valencia on Saturday, giving Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid a chance to move into sole possession of first place in La Liga.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32012544 Real Madrid Real+Madrid World

League standings: 17-2-2.

Last week's ranking: Fourth.

Los Blancos broke two records with their 1-0 win over Espanyol in the Copa del Rey Tuesday. It was Real’s eighth straight clean sheet victory -- a first in the club’s 112-year history -- and Iker Casillas, who started all eight games, broke the individual clean sheet record (682 minutes) along the way. Real still trail Atletico and Barcelona by a point, but also remain the hottest team amongst the three.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011085 Atletico Madrid Atletico+Madrid World

League standings: 17-3-1.

Last week's ranking: Sixth.

Now that Real Madrid has caught up to the top of the table, the race for the La Liga title is way too close to call with so much of the season left to play. They are unbeaten in their last 12 La Liga matches, and will need to continue to get results if they want to fend off Real and surpass Barcelona. Plus, they're in the Copa del Rey semfinals against none other than Los Blancos -- it's going to be a long few weeks for Atletico, and they better hope they've got the stamina to stay on pace at the top.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011084 Arsenal Arsenal World

League standings: 16-4-3.

Last week's ranking: Fifth.

The Gunners were on a good run until they met Southampton this week, and couldn't manage to get the full three points to propel them ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table. They've got an upcoming tough stretch with matches against Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich -- and not to mention Aaron Ramsey will likely be out for all of those matches. Arsenal will be glad they were able to snatch up midfielder Kim Kallstrom on loan on Deadline Day, because they'll need all the help they can get in the next few weeks.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011086 Chelsea Chelsea World

League standings: 15-5-3.

Last week's ranking: Seventh.

After a dominant 3-1 win over Manchester United, Chelsea's next Premier League match was full of disappointment. Despite a plethora of shots, they were held to a frustrating scoreless draw against West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. The Blues will have to shake off that result as they can't afford to fall further behind Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for the title.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011087 Paris Saint-Germain Paris+Saint-Germain World

League standing: 16-6-1.

Last week's ranking: Ninth.

Following a shock loss to Montpellier in the Coupe de France, PSG tied Guincamp and saw their Ligue 1 lead reduced down to three points over Monaco. That could be significant as the Parisians play Monaco a week from Sunday. It’s now a two-team race between them, as Lille has dropped out of the running after a four-game winless streak in league play. A comfortable 2-0 victory over Bordeaux on Friday night should ease concerns for now.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011088 Juventus Juventus World

League standings: 18-2-1.

Last week's ranking: Eighth.

Lazio snapped Juve’s 12-game winning streak in Serie A -- the league’s second-longest of all time -- but it was still a gutsy performance by the defending champs, who lost Gigi Buffon on an early red card and conceded on the ensuing penalty. It’s the first time Juve have been held winless for two straight games since October (defeats at Fiorentina and Real Madrid). On the bright side, they still lead the league by a solid six points over Roma, who have the added chore of the Coppa Italia to deal with.

World 2018 2820 FOX Soccer Power Rankings - Jan. 31 - Feb. 7 32011089 Benfica Benfica World

League standing: 12-4-1.

Last week's ranking: Unranked.

The league leaders in Portugal have ripped off nine straight wins in all competitions, including the past five on clean sheets, and were justifiably voted into the Top 10 ahead of a pair of usual suspects from the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund continues to struggle despite their 2-1 victory over lowly Eintracht Braunschweig, and Leverkusen -- who remain ahead of them in second place -- lost last weekend in Freiburg. Benfica, who will start Europa League play in February, deserve some recognition based on performance, especially when most other “big" clubs do not.

Editor's note: Substitute Oscar Cardozo marked his return from a back injury with a forgettable finale after failing on a late penalty for 10-man Benfica to draw 1-1.
