The past two years have been a roller coaster ride for Herculez Gomez, who has enjoyed his share of successes since heading to Mexico from Major League Soccer. From Puebla, to Pachua and most recently with Estudiantes Tecos, Gomez has found a way to keep scoring goals even when minutes have been tough to come by.

Gomez’s ability to produce goals has led to multiple moves, and has now led to his latest club switch. Mexican League finalist Santos Laguna has acquired Gomez from Tecos, sources with knowledge of the deal told FOX Soccer on Friday night. The transfer is expected to be announced next week.

Gomez is joining a Santos Laguna side stacked at forward, but a team that could see some of their attacking stars depart in the winter transfer window.

Gomez scored seven goals for Tecos, leading Estudiantes and finishing tied for tenth in the league, all despite never becoming a regular starter for the club.

The 2010 U.S. World Cup veteran has scored 22 goals in two full seasons in the Mexican First Division, making him one of the best goal-scorers in the league during that time frame.

Despite that goal-scoring rate, Gomez has yet to be called in by new U.S. national team head coach Jurgen Klinsman, who replaced Bradley as head coach in late July. Gomez’s last national team appearance came in August of 2010 in the United States’ 2-0 loss to Brazil.
