Three high school soccer players attending a sports camp in Massachusetts have been arrested on charges they sexually assaulted three younger campers.

Berkshire District Attorney David Capeless says the assaults occurred Aug. 25 at Camp Lenox in Otis, where Somerville High School was holding an annual team-building retreat. He says the three juniors are accused of assaulting three freshmen in a cabin.

Seventeen-year-old Galileo Mondol and two 16-year-old boys were arrested Friday. Mondol faces charges including aggravated rape of a child, assault with intent to rape a child, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Mondol's attorney said Saturday that his client has never been in trouble before and he is confident of exoneration. The 16-year-olds face similar charges. Their names weren't released.

“These allegations go far beyond hazing. This is rape,” Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone said in a news conference on Friday. “Our immediate focus after reporting the incident to the appropriate authorities was providing support services to the victims, students, and the families. That remains our focus now,” added Curatone.

Curatone emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated. “In no way are these allegations a reflection on the team, our kids, (or) our community,” he said.

Arraignment is set for Tuesday.
