When Jozy Altidore told FOX Soccer back in June that his goal heading into the new Eredivisie campaign was to improve on the 19 goals he scored in all competitions the previous season for AZ Alkmaar, the goal seemed a bit ambitious.

Two games into the new Dutch League campaign Altidore is looking every bit like someone poised to make that goal look easy. He scored multiple goals for the second straight game to lead a large contingent of American players who scored goals this past weekend.

U.S. national team pool players Michael Parkhurst, Clarence Goodson and Alejandro Bedoya all scored goals last weekend. Three players with aspirations of being called in by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann did well to stand out from the crowd in a weekend that was fairly light on action for American players.

In Mexico, Edgar Castillo and Joey Corona both started in Club Tijuana’s 2-1 victory vs. UANL Tigres. Michael Orozco Fiscal, the star of the U.S. national team’s 1-0 win against Mexico last Wednesday, played 90 minutes in a 1-0 San Luis loss to Chivas Guadalajara.

Here are the best American performers in top foreign leagues this past weekend:

Two more beautiful goals for the big American forward, who showed his mobility and ability to combine well in finishing off his third and fourth goals of the young season. He made a lung-busting run that began in the defensive half of the field before working an excellent give-and-go on his first goal, then took a pass from near midfield and ran at the Heracles defense before hitting a perfect shot from 17 yards out.

UCLA alum Matt Taylor turned in the performance of the week as he converted a hat-trick and an assist to help lead German third division side Preussen Munster to a German Cup upset of Bundesliga giant Werder Bremen. Thanks to the game of his career, Taylor’s 3rd division side was able to send one of the biggest names in German soccer home from the German Cup much earlier than anticipated.

The American defender scored the lone goal, a 75th-minute strike, in FC Nordsjaelland’s 1-0 victory against AGF Aarhus on Sunday. Parkhurst played the full 90 minutes for the Danish champions, who are also preparing to take part in the UEFA Champions League group stage. A right back for his club side, Parkhurst garnered looks from Klinsmann at the start of the year and could merit another look next winter.

The former Glasgow Rangers midfielder wasted no time acclimating himself to his new team. Bedoya scored on an overhead kick right in front of goal to for Helsingborgs’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Elfsborg. After spending an injury-riddled season with Glasgow Rangers, Bedoya returned for a second stint in the Swedish First Division, where he began his pro career with Orebro. Bedoya and Helsingborgs will now take on Celtic.

The U.S. Men’s National team defender didn’t get called in for the upset of Mexico, but Goodson provided a reminder of why he is still very much in Klinsmann’s centerback mix after delivering an 85th-minute equalizer in Brondby’s 1-1 draw vs. FC Copenhagen on Saturday. Goodson has lost ground to Stoke City's Geoff Cameron in the U.S. centerback depth chart, but with so few central defenders really stepping up for the U.S. lately, Goodson is still very much a good candidate to play in the national team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
