LONDON (AP)

Wigan has agreed on a deal to appoint Owen Coyle as its new manager.

Coyle, who was sacked by Bolton in October, will replace Roberto Martinez, who left Wigan to join Everton.

Wigan is expected to confirm Coyle later Friday.

Wigan won the FA Cup last season but was relegated from the English Premier League.

Coyle guided Burnley to promotion in 2009 before moving to Bolton in January 2010.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan says, ''He's done it all before by taking Burnley to the Premier League. He didn't have quite the same success at Bolton but sometimes these things go against you. I've got to say, of all the candidates to apply, I thought he was the best.''
