NEWCASTLE, England (AP)

West Ham remained unbeaten in the Premier League while Newcastle earned its first point of the season in an uneventful 0-0 draw at St James' Park on Saturday.

Substitute Sammy Ameobi came tantalizingly close to salvaging three points for Newcastle after his injury-time cross caught the inside of West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen's post. The ball bounced back out to Yoan Gouffran who sent the rebound over the bar from point-blank range

West Ham beat Cardiff 2-0 in its first league game.

Yohan Cabaye was once again left out of the Newcastle squad as speculation continues to mount about his future.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew made three enforced changes to the side beaten 4-0 at Manchester City on Monday.
