Villarreal's Cani extends contract until 2017

Villarreal says Ruben ''Cani'' Gracia has agreed to extend his contract for another three years, tying the Spanish midfielder to the club until June of 2017.

The 32-year-old Cani is second only to former player Marcos Senna in all-time appearances for Villarreal with 302 matches played.

Cani's two goals and playmaking have helped Villarreal make a strong return to the topflight after one year in the second division. It is currently in fifth place.

Cani will miss Saturday's Spanish league game at Barcelona due to a left knee sprain.
