Thiago Silva, Paris Saint-Germain's latest big-money signing, said he came to the French club for the quality of the football, not the money.

The Brazil defender said Friday at his introductory news conference that he wasn't really interested in French football until the arrival at PSG last year of Leonardo as sporting director and Carlo Ancelotti as coach.

''I could have maybe made another choice if I wasn't convinced of the quality of the club's and the team's play,'' said the former AC Milan player, according to the Sipa news agency. ''Money is not my priority. I'm here to win, to fight.''

Both Leonardo and Ancelotti were brought in by PSG's wealthy Qatari owners as part of their bid turn the French club around and attract better players. They have also spent a lot of cash - ?100 million ($125 million) last year and ?150 million ($188 million) this year, including for Silva and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic - but the results so far have been less than stellar.

PSG finished second in the French league last year to a much less flashy Montpellier team, and they have yet to impress this season.

Silva, who was introduced as ''the best defender in the world'' by club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, said he hoped to change that.

''I am here with my family and I hope to succeed in Paris as much as I did in Milan,'' he said.

Al-Khelaifi said that he thought the club wouldn't be buying any more players this season, although Leonardo held out the possibility that the team might bring in another defender.
