South Africa's Premier Soccer League says one of its teams can't play a planned friendly against Liverpool this month because the date falls within the South African season.

Derek Blanckensee, General Manager of the PSL, said Wednesday the league had told Ajax Cape Town it can't play the English Premier League side on May 21 because South Africa's season-ending Nedbank Cup final will only be played the weekend after.

The friendly at Cape Town's 2010 World Cup stadium was announced by Liverpool on Monday.

Blanckensee said the fixture can go ahead on a date after the season ends if Ajax or any other PSL team is involved. He also said the city of Cape Town, which is promoting the game at Cape Town Stadium, had asked the PSL to reconsider.
