Police say Motherwell striker Michael Higdon has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault at a Glasgow nightclub, just hours after receiving Scottish football's Player of the Year award.

When contacted about the alleged incident involving Higdon, Police Scotland said Monday that a ''29-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged assault at a nightclub in Ingram Street in Glasgow.''

The procurator fiscal is Scotland's public prosecutor.

Higdon, who is from Liverpool, was handed the prestigious award at a ceremony in Glasgow on Sunday after scoring a Scottish Premier League-high 26 goals for Motherwell this season. Higdon was scheduled for a news conference on Monday but the event was postponed.
