Bayer Leverkusen signed South Korea attacking midfielder Son Heung-min from Bundesliga rival Hamburg on a five-year contract Thursday.

Leverkusen declined to disclose the transfer fee for the 20-year-old Son.

''In Son Heung-min we have signed a player who was already one of Hamburg's main performers despite his young age,'' Leverkusen managing director Wolfgang Holzhaeuser said. ''Son exactly fits our requirements for young professionals of international standard with huge potential.''

The German club signed the player on the same day that it reached an agreement to sell Germany forward Andre Schuerrle to Chelsea.

The English Premier League side says on its website it has signed the 22-year-old Schuerrle ''subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical.''

Kicker reports Chelsea will pay 23 million euros for Schuerrle, who will reportedly earn 4.8 million euros per season across five years.

''We said from the beginning that Andre Schuerrle could only transfer to Chelsea when an adequate replacement on a sporting level is available. We now have this alternative in Son under contract,'' Holzhaeuser said.
