Substitute Keisuke Honda scored the opening goal Friday as Japan beat Guatemala 3-0 in a friendly.

Honda headed Japan into the lead in the 50th-minute at Nagai Stadium, scoring off a cross from Yuto Nagatomo. It was Honda's 17th goal for the national team.

Masato Kudo doubled the advantage before Yasuhito Endo scored from a free kick.

Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni used an experimental lineup with Manchester United forward Shinji Kagawa in a central attacking midfield role and Honda on the bench at the start.

Japan, which has already qualified for next year's World Cup, will have another friendly against Ghana in Yokohama on Tuesday.
