Former Portuguese star Paulo Sousa has been named coach of Israeli club champion Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 42-year-old Sousa signed a two-year deal on Wednesday and will lead Maccabi's attempt to qualify for the Champions League group stage for the second time in its history.
Sousa replaces Spaniard Oscar Garcia, who led the team to the Israeli league title in May but quit for personal reasons.
He will work alongside former Dutch star Jordi Cruyff, the team's general manager.
Sousa made 51 appearances for Portugal during a career that included stints with Benfica, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus. He has previously coached in England with Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leicester City.
He has been without a club since leaving Hungarian side Videotron in January.
