Former Italy and Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero has won the Sydney FC player of the year award in his inaugural A-League season.

The 38-year-old Del Piero, who scored 14 goals for Sydney, won the top award as well as the Sydney FC Members Award and the Golden Boot at a ceremony on Tuesday night.

The marquee striker had a big role in increasing attendance and television audiences across the A-League. Sydney FC averaged 18,637 fans at home matches and led the league in television figures.

After signing a one-year contract with an option for a second, Del Piero has already re-signed for next season.

Sydney FC failed to make the playoffs, finishing in seventh place and missing out on a top-six finals spot on goal difference to Perth.
