Andre Villas-Boas has hinted his next managerial position will be outside of England following his sacking at Tottenham.

The Portuguese, who spent 17 months at White Hart Lane, was shown the door earlier this month following a 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool.

Villas-Boas had hoped to bring silverware to Tottenham after failing to live up to his growing reputation during a 10-month period at Chelsea which ended with his dismissal in March of last year.

"I wish I could have responded to the confidence shown in me by the fans with a trophy," he said.

"I had great ambitions to win a trophy with Tottenham this season.

"This is now a time of reflection for me and my staff and for repositioning our careers. Nevertheless, England was a great experience."

Villas-Boas, 36, had been lured to Stamford Bridge after guiding Porto to an unprecedented treble of Portuguese league, Cup and Europa League.

However, he was replaced by Roberto Di Matteo after winning just 19 of his 40 games in charge and after three months out of the game was recruited by Spurs following the departure of Harry Redknapp.

Despite winning all six matches in their Europa League group campaign, Spurs' inconsistent league form, which included a 6-0 drubbing at Manchester City, finally cost AVB his job on December 16.
