Everton maintained their impressive start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Aston Villa in which Romelu Lukaku and Leon Osman scored second-half goals for the Toffees.

Relive the best images from week 9 in the Premier League on a mixed afternoon for Mikel Arteta.

Christian Benteke spurned a great chance to give Villa the lead when his penalty was saved by Tim Howard, and the Belgian's misery was compounded when his compatriot Lukaku put Everton ahead in the 68th minute.

Osman then wrapped up the points with a second nine minutes from time.

Saturday's other 3pm kick-off saw Norwich and Cardiff draw 0-0.

Norwich were dominant but found Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall in fine form to leave the Canaries in a precarious position with only Palace and Sunderland beneath them.

Leroy Fer nearly snatched a winner for the home side with a last-minute header, but Marshall remained unerring in the visiting goal.

The Dutchman was then at the heart of late controversy as he received Ricky van Wolfswinkel's throw-in after treatment was given to Norwich midfielder Alexander Tettey, passing the ball into an empty goal.

As confusion reined over the stadium, referee Jones ended up ruling out the goal, as he was expected to return the ball to Marshall.
