Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31741175 Rumors with a 'bite' to it Rumors+with+a+%27bite%27+to+it Premier League

Last week we missed a trick which we hope to rectify. The Luis Suarez biting scandal and the ensuing 10-match ban opened up the possibility of a move from Anfield for the Uruguayan, although he had his say about his future at the end of last week. We started to think what kind of band would be perfect to sum up the antics of flesh-eating Suarez, who was clearly missed during the Reds’ goalless draw with Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday. They’ve got a new album out on May 14 and if it’s as good as their first it’s going to be another classic. Ten tracks by Vampire Weekend are in this week’s mix - including track titles from their new album Modern Vampires of the City.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31741174 Gareth Bale, M, Tottenham Gareth+Bale%2C+M%2C+Tottenham Premier League

RUMOR: Tottenham to Manchester United
LIKELIHOOD: Not for the moment

The weekend saw a rumor suggesting that Alex Ferguson is prepared to test Tottenham’s resolve about keeping hold of Gareth Bale, who has set the Premier League alight this season and swept the boards when it came to awards. We’re not sure how much truth there is in this piece of tittle tattle, but United have visited White Hart Lane before and come away with their target (Berbatov, Carrick). Spurs chairman rates Bale at $93 million, so will United step in and make a bid? Over to you Alex!

RUMOR: Return to Manchester United
LIKELIHOOD: Becoming an interesting prospect

It’s been quite a week for CR7. His Real Madrid side were knocked out of the Champions League, he was accused by a chancer of having an affair (I stand corrected – accused by a totally wholesome character) and then he supposedly told a player at Manchester United that he would be open to a return to Old Trafford. Rumors have surfaced that Javier Hernandez will be used as part of a swap deal although United will still have to part with an awful lot of cash. Long way to go yet – and it all depends on whether the Glazers are willing to pay.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31740282 David Luiz, D/M, Chelsea David+Luiz%2C+D%2FM%2C+Chelsea Premier League

RUMOR: Chelsea to Barcelona
LIKELIHOOD: Only for a massive price

There was a time when Luiz was regarded as a bit of a joke in the Premier League. Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who works for Sky, used to pore over his mistakes during the post-match analysis of Chelsea games, but no longer. The Brazilian has become a force to be reckoned with, especially in the second half of the season, and his form has apparently not gone unnoticed by Barcelona. The Blues are determined to hang on to this giant player, but many have tried to resist the lure of Camp Nou and failed.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31740281 Luis Suarez, F, Liverpool Luis+Suarez%2C+F%2C+Liverpool Premier League

RUMOR: Leaving Liverpool
LIKELIHOOD: You know the answer

It seems the whole of Liverpool’s squad has been asked about the future of the Uruguayan, but last week we were hilariously treated to the thoughts of his wife, who told her doting husband to get a grip. Will we be hearing from his cousins, aunts and uncles soon? No matter, Suarez sees his long-term future at Liverpool despite being banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31740286 Edinson Cavani, F, Napoli Edinson+Cavani%2C+F%2C+Napoli Premier League

RUMOR: Napoli to Manchester City
LIKELIHOOD: The Italians hold the aces

If City are to make a big-money signing this summer it’s fair to say they’re going to have to pull out all the stops. The latest rumor surrounding City’s pursuit is that they are prepared to offer Edin Dzeko in part exchange to push through the deal. Napoli don’t want to be left paying over the odds to fill the gap left by Cavani’s exit, so a swap deal makes sense. Cavani’s stats don’t lie. Seventy- five goals in 101 appearances for Napoli makes him a hot property, but both Napoli and Cavani are in a strong position to decide where he will be next season. The bookmakers have City as slight favorites to sign the Uruguayan, but only just behind PSG.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31740283 Jurgen Klopp, Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen+Klopp%2C+Borussia+Dortmund+manager Premier League

RUMOR: Dortmund to Manchester United

Klopp’s star seems to be rising permanently and his success with Dortmund has prompted talk that he could be the man to replace Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. For a year or so that was thought to be the domain of one Jose Mourinho, but the Portuguese now seems to be on his way back to Chelsea barring a spectacular falling-out with the club’s owner. However, speculation about Klopp is irrelevant considering Ferguson has no plans to retire any time soon. Only the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (we love slipping in the odd Shakespeare quote at FOX Soccer) can oust Ferguson from the hot seat and we just don’t see that happening .

RUMOR: Malaga to Manchester United/City
LIKELIHOOD: Watching brief but a summer bid expected

There’s no doubting the talent of Malaga star Isco, but is he about to follow Santi Cazorla to the Premier League? Scouts from both Manchester United and City have apparently watched his last four games for the Andalucians, who remember have been banned from playing in a European competition for one year when they qualify. This young lion, full name Francisco Roman Alarcon Suarez, has been touted for a move because of his club’s well-documented financial problems, but for the moment no bid is in the offing. We expect one in the summer though.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31741172 Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid manager Jose+Mourinho%2C+Real+Madrid+manager Premier League

RUMOR: Return to Chelsea
LIKELIHOOD: It's still on, apparently.

For the unbelievers amongst you here is proof that Jose Mourinho will be back at Chelsea next season. Wait for it. The ‘Special One’, has been spotted….we can barely believe it ourselves…..buying 200 euros of boxes and masking tape from Ikea! Do you need any more proof that the Portuguese will return to Stamford Bridge in the summer? He seemed to be on the brink of saying it after Real Madrid’s Champions League exit last week when he gave an unexpected interview to ITV reporter Gabriel Clarke. Mourinho said: "I want to be where I love to be and where people love me to be." However, Clarke immediately interrupted him and said: "I'll take that as England, I've got to go,” before the camera cut back to the anchorman at pitchside. Tellingly Mourinho says he has not made a decision about his future so some doubt still persists although we’re not convinced.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31741171 Fernandinho, M, Shakhtar Donetsk Fernandinho%2C+M%2C+Shakhtar+Donetsk Premier League

RUMOR: Shakhtar to Manchester City
LIKELIHOOD: Not at that price

If Fernandinho is to stand a chance of joining Manchester City, as he professed this week, then Shakhtar Donetsk are going to have to reduce his release-clause fee which is an eyewatering $66 million. We appreciate that a ratio of one goal every six games is impressive for a defensive midfielder and Fernandinho can run all day but it is unlikely Roberto Mancini would want to spend that amount on the 28-year-old Brazilian – even if he does want to join City.

Premier League 433 43 Rumor Redux - May 6-12 31740284 David Villa, F, Barcelona David+Villa%2C+F%2C+Barcelona Premier League

RUMOR: Barcelona to Liverpool
LIKELIHOOD: Can't see it

Brendan Rodgers made a loan bid for the Barca striker in January and although the offer failed he is expected to come back to the table to help ease the pain of losing Luis Suarez for the first six games of next season. Of course, Liverpool’s American owners FSG would prefer to sign young players whose value increases throughout their careers but Rodgers is thought to be desperate to bring proven quality to Anfield. A case of the kids don’t stand a chance? Not really, but Villa may want to examine his options once Neymar arrives at Camp Nou and they may not include a move to Merseyside. Arsenal seems more of a possibility.
