Premier League 433 2740 FOX Soccer Power Rankings: Dec. 5-12 31979574 Fully stuffed Fully+stuffed Premier League

After letting Landon Donovan hijack our Power Rankings last week, our panel of experts returns plenty refreshed and probably still a bit too full from Thanksgiving weekend. There was a lot of football to digest as well the past seven days, and thanks in part to the continued unpredictability of the Premier League, there are once again changes to our top ten. Click through the gallery to find out who made the cut this week:

Dropped out: Manchester United, Roma, Napoli.

There are still no concerns as far as results are concerned, but Josep Guardiola must still be a bit frustrated. He continues to insist that Bayern haven’t reached their full potential yet (scary isn’t it), and it’s easy to see why. The revolving door at Dr. Muller-Wohlfart’s practice just keeps spinning. On the day Franck Ribery returned from his rip injury, Arjen Robben had to be stretchered off after leading Bayern to a German Cup win in Augsburg. They have enough quality regardless, but just how good can Bayern be at full strength?

Pundits voiced concern that Mesut Ozil cooled off a bit after his blistering start in a Gunners shirt, but he responded in a big way this past week. The German provided two assists in a 3-0 win at Cardiff and was the man of the match against Hull on Wednesday with a goal and supplying several moments of genius. His link-up play with the ever-impressive Aaron Ramsey has been the catalyst to Arsenal’s tremendous form. Heck, when Nicklas Bendtner starts scoring goals, you know that you're in business.

The argument whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is more important to their respective teams has been put to rest rather quickly, no? While Real Madrid have cruised right along during Ronaldo’s brief absence, Barca fell flat on their collective faces in the first two games without Messi. Another stumble, and the Catalans could see both Madrid clubs pass them in the La Liga table and in these rankings.

Gareth Bale has made the most out of Cristiano Ronaldo’s short injury spell. With the spotlight squarely on him (the Ronaldo Ballon d’Or rally aside) the 24-year-old excelled against Galatasaray last week and scored his first hat trick for Los Merengues over the weekend in a blowout win against Valladolid, adding an assist as well. Even the fickle fans at the Bernabeau must realize that Bale has fully arrived.

Perhaps just as important as Juventus’ continued hot streak (six clean sheet victories in a row in Serie A to push their lead over Roma to three points) is the new contract extension for Arturo Vidal. Juve’s Mr. Do-It-All is now bound to the club through 2017. This week, the Serie A champs face Galatasaray in the final Champions League group stage match. As long as they don’t lose, they’re through to the knockout stage.

Real Madrid’s crosstown rivals drop after settling for three draws in their past five games. Still, they are just two goals away from taking over first place after Barcelona’s loss at Bilbao, and remain firmly in the running for their first Primera Division title since 1996. Diego Costa continues to run the show for Los Rojiblancos, notching his 15th goal of the campaign in a 2-0 win over Elche. Costa is now just two goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Everyone has a bad week once in a while, even the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his Zlataneers. PSG lost its first game of the season to Evian, the same team that annoyed them last season (knocking them out of the Coupe de France). The loss allowed second-placed Lille to creep within one point of the Ligue 1 leaders, while Monaco lurk just two points behind. A home bout against bottom-of-the-table Sochaux should be just the right medicine to get PSG back on track.

It never seems to be easy, but Jose Mourinho’s men keep grinding out wins to stay on Arenal’s heels in the Premier League. Ten goals in their past three league contests is an encouraging sign for an offense that struggled early on in the year, and the Blues will look to keep it going against soft opponents the next two weeks (vs. Stoke, at Steaua, vs. Crystal Palace and at Sunderland).

It’s been a good bounce-back week for Dortmund. After snapping a three-game losing streak against Napoli last week, Dortmund beat a decent Mainz team on the road and, okay, a not-so-decent Saarbruecken side in the German Cup midweek. Jurgen Klopp has compensated for a heavy injury toll by dipping into Dortmund’s talent pool and challenging his next stars in-the-making. Jonas Hofman seems to have made the most of it, emerging as the match-winner against Saarbrucken with a goal and an assist.

It’s to little surprise that Manchester City continue to lead the Premier League in goals and shots on target, but did you know the Citizens have also allowed the fewest shots per game? The league’s best home team is also finally making strides on the road, grabbing their second away win of the season at West Brom in midweek. And if there’s anyone who can rival Luis Suarez and Aaron Ramsey right now for Player of the Year honors, it is Sergio Aguero. For the time being, Manchester is blue.
