LA Galaxy 2, FC Dallas 0

Marcelo Sarvas and Hector Jimenez scored second-half goals, and the Los Angeles Galaxy beat FC Dallas 2-0 on Sunday night to post back-to-back wins for the first time since April.

Sarvas nodded home a cross from Robbie Keane in the 65th minute, and Jimenez slotted a feed from Robbie Rogers in the 80th for the Galaxy (9-7-3), who vaulted from fifth to third in the Western Conference, four points behind Real Salt Lake.

Second-place FC Dallas (8-4-7) would have pulled even on points with RSL with a win.

Los Angeles, the two-time reigning MLS Cup champion, dominated the game. The Galaxy outshot Dallas 22-6 and created nearly a dozen scoring chances. Dallas tested goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini just once, with Jackson Goncalves' dipping shot from 28 yards forcing a diving save in the 76th minute.

Rogers twice came close to scoring his first goal for the Galaxy. He fired at Dallas goalkeeper Troy Perkins from an Omar Gonzalez through ball in the 18th minute, and a drive in the 49th was cleared off the line by Jair Benitez.

Chicago Fire 1, Sporting KC 2

Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi scored in the first eight minutes, and Sporting Kansas City beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 on Sunday, snapping Chicago's three-match winning streak.

The victory was only Kansas City's second in the last seven matches, giving SKC 30 points.

Kansas City's two goals were scored 2 minutes 14 seconds apart.

Colorado Rapids 0, D.C. United 0

Joe Willis earned his first shutout, and D.C. United tied the Colorado Rapids 0-0 on Sunday night despite being blanked for the 12th time this season.

D.C. United (2-13-4), the last-place team in the Eastern Conference, has scored an MLS-worst eight goals this year. Only three players in the starting lineup had goals in the previous eight games, all on penalty kicks.

Willis, a standout player for the University of Denver, made several stops - including one on Deshorn Brown's breakaway in the 75th minute.

D.C. United is 0-6-3 on the road.

Colorado (7-7-6) had beaten the top two teams in the Eastern Conference in its previous two games. Clint Irwin had his seventh shutout of the season.

The Rapids, shut out for the fifth time, failed to get back over .500 for the first time since they were 5-4-5 on June 1.

Feilhaber scored his first of the season in the sixth minute, hammering a right-footed shot from 16 yards when a throw-in by defender Matt Besler deflected off two players and ended up at his feet.

Chicago goalkeeper Paulo Tornaghi couldn't stop that shot, and seemed surprised by midfielder Zusi's nonchalant 20-yard shot soon after. It curled over Tornaghi and into the upper right-hand corner.

Mike Magee cut the margin to 2-1 in the 38th minute.

Columbus Crew 1, Portland Timbers 0

Bernardo Anor's early goal helped the Columbus Crew defeat Portland 1-0 on Sunday to end the Timbers' 15-game unbeaten streak.

Portland (7-2-9) had gone 7-0-8 since March 9 while the Crew (6-8-5) ended a three-game losing streak.

Anor scored in the fourth minute off a restart from Federico Higuain for the second straight match with a snap header from 6 yards to the inside of the left post.

But Higuain failed to increase the lead seven minutes later as he missed his second penalty kick in six attempts this season by shooting the ball left of the net.

Aaron Schoenfeld drew the penalty and a red card to Pa-Modou Kah in the 11th when the defender stuck his right foot into the face of Schoenfeld.

Montreal Impact 1, Chivas USA 1

Patrice Bernier scored from the penalty spot in the 80th minute, and the Montreal Impact tied Chivas USA 1-1 on Sunday night.

Bernier's goal came after Mario De Luna took down Sanna Nyassi on the left edge of the penalty area.

Eric Avila scored for Chivas (3-10-4), the last place team in the Western Conference. Chivas has gone 13 games without a win, dating to a 2-1 victory over Vancouver on March 30.

The East-leading Impact (9-4-4) are winless in three games and have allowed eight goals in that span. Montreal's recent defensive woes surfaced again when low-scoring Chivas took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.

Montreal reached the halfway mark of its second season. The Impact were 5-9-3 as an expansion team last year at the midpoint.
