Almost four months after playing their last competitive match in the MLS postseason, the Houston Dynamo returned to Robertson Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Mexican club Atlante in the first match of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. Bobby Boswell put the home side in front in the 34th minute with a diving header off a Brad Davis corner kick. In the second half, Atlante continued to look for an equalizer and was eventually rewarded during a goalmouth mixup between Houston defender Julius James and 'keeper Pat Onstad in the 82nd minute. Midfielder Gabriel Pereyra pushed the ball into the net out of the scramble to even the match at 1-1, despite being surrounded by a host of Dynamo defenders. Houston forced much of the late action as the teams began to push and shove late in the match, but couldn't find a winner. The MLS side will now be forced to play in Mexico in the second leg without the benefit of a goal advantage.
