MLS 195 2341 MLS Power Rankings: Week Ten 31742004 Hard times Hard+times MLS

DC United appeared to turn the corner at the end of last season. Promising young coach Ben Olsen directed the club to its first playoff berth in five years and guided his side into the Eastern Conference final. The future looked particularly bright with most of the core players returning and Dwayne De Rosario back to full fitness.

Instead of building upon that foundation this season, United has fallen apart. United currently boasts the league's worst record (1-7-1), worst offense (four goals) and worst defense (17 goals allowed). To cap it all off and underscore the staggering fall, United suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Houston – the opposition in that Eastern Conference final – in front of a sparse gathering at RFK Stadium on Wednesday night.

MLS 195 2341 MLS Power Rankings: Week Ten 31745459 Houston Dynamo Houston+Dynamo MLS

Forget about all of that home success for a moment: the Dynamo is currently taking its show on the road. Houston secured two road victories in four days – a 1-0 triumph at LA Galaxy on Sunday and a 4-0 thumping at downtrodden D.C. United on Wednesday – to reinforce the notion that it can also win matches away from the friendly confines of BBVA Compass Stadium.

Next on the docket: Dominic Kinnear's side returns to its preferred venue for a date with Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.

The two-time defending champions ceded a bit of ground to their frequent title adversaries from Houston on Sunday. Andrew Driver grabbed all three points for the Dynamo in a match where Bruce Arena claimed Tally Hall should have procured a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity (the referee on the field and the Professional Referee Organization disagreed) and Landon Donovan missed the ensuing penalty.

Next on the docket: The MLS Cup holders head to Vancouver on Saturday in search of a third win in four matches.

Blue Hell has turned into Sporting's own personal house of horrors recently. The 1-0 defeat marked Sporting's second home defeat in three matches.

A midweek trip to Western Conference leaders FC Dallas presented perhaps the natural break in the Timbers' recent run of good form. Darlington Nagbe's volley after 70 minutes paved the way for Caleb Porter's side to extend its unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 1-1 draw in midweek.

Forget about inconsistency: the Red Bulls have ironed out those issues and turned their attention to procuring points on a regular basis. Thierry Henry scored twice – including a stunning bicycle kick for the eventual winner – to hand New York a 2-1 victory over Montreal on Wednesday. The triumph marked the fourth straight victory for Mike Petke's side.

Next on the docket: Henry may take the weekend off as the Red Bulls play on the turf at New England on Saturday.

Real Salt Lake boss Jason Kreis leaned on older, wiser players for much of the past few years. The contributions of first-year players Olmes Garcia (89th minute winner), Devon Sandoval (first MLS goal) and Carlos Salcedo (first start and first sending off) in the 2-1 victory at New England on Wednesday night show the veteran core has received an injection of youth.

Suddenly in-form midfielder Tim Cahill handed the Crew its second defeat in three outings on Saturday. On the bright side, the Crew Stadium scoreboard did not catch on fire at any point before, during or after the match.

MLS 195 2341 MLS Power Rankings: Week Ten 31742003 Colorado Rapids Colorado+Rapids MLS

Rapids coach Oscar Pareja continues to stitch this team together with bailing wire, but the results reflect his young side's desire to impress. A run of one defeat in six matches – including the late 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday – provides ample encouragement for this group to continue to push forward as key players like Martin Rívero return to full fitness and sharpness.

Next on the docket: Rívero and the Rapids host Columbus on Saturday night.
