MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659783 In good hands In+good+hands MLS

Do not expect a rash of nil-nil draws to break out this weekend in tribute to the United States' priceless stalemate in Mexico on Tuesday night. The first four rounds of MLS play have yielded just three scoreless matches. And those affairs all included a rather unique trait to keep them that way: a defiant goalkeeper (Bill Hamid in the draw between DC United and New York), an entrenched opponent (Chicago's deep line at Sporting Kansas City) or an influential weather condition (the wind in the match between Sporting Kansas City and New England). Maybe a couple of sides will deviate from the established trend to salute the American efforts in Mexico City, but the neutrals at home will hope the goals continue to flow as last matchday in March beckons.

Honorable mention:

11. D.C. United
12. Chivas USA
13. Seattle Sounders
14. New England Revolution
15. New York Red Bulls
16. Toronto FC
17. Portland Timbers
18. Chicago Fire
19. Colorado Rapids

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659787 Montreal Impact Montreal+Impact MLS

The formula established in the first three games of the season carried over to the Impact's 1-0 victory over New York on Saturday afternoon. Marco Di Vaio nicked an early goal to stake Marco Schällibaum's outfit to an early lead. The rearguard held firm and the Impact retained its place atop the Eastern Conference with a minimum of fuss.

Next on the docket: Sporting Kansas City will place the Impact's unblemished run under severe scrutiny in Kansas City, Kan. on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659786 Los Angeles Galaxy Los+Angeles+Galaxy MLS

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena turned to young strikers Jack McBean and Jose Villarreal to plug the hole left by Robbie Keane's excursion to Sweden. McBean and Villarreal impressed with their work and spurned a host of chances before veteran Mike Magee converted from the spot to give the Galaxy a 1-0 victory over Colorado. Magee may have to pick up the slack once again after Keane picked up a calf injury during Ireland's draw in Stockholm on Friday.

Next on the docket: The MLS Cup holders will try to maintain their fine form when they visit Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659784 San Jose Earthquakes San+Jose+Earthquakes MLS

Leave it to Chris Wondolowski to claim all three points for his tattered side. The predatory striker decided Saturday's 1-0 game with a clever touch to prompt his silky finish inside the far post. San Jose will need more of Wondolowski's heroics to survive injuries to key players like Marvin Chávez and Steven Lenhart and sustain this positive start to the season.

Next on the docket: Earthquakes boss Frank Yallop will gather his available troops for a difficult trek to Houston on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659785 Houston Dynamo Houston+Dynamo MLS

The expectant folks in Vancouver circled Saturday as the day the Dynamo would concede its unbeaten record at BBVA Compass Stadium. The absences of Brad Davis, Boniek Garcia and Jermaine Taylor due to international commitments buttressed that belief. And the Dynamo still managed to produce a 2-1 victory to protect its home soil. The lesson, as always: never doubt the Dynamo at home.

Next on the docket: All three key figures should return to the fold in time for San Jose's visit on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659788 FC Dallas FC+Dallas+ MLS

One of the surprise packages of the season so far continued to impress in a 2-0 home victory over Real Salt Lake. Fabian Castillo and Jackson tallied to hand Schellas Hyndman's men a third win in four attempts. FCD has received a few fortunate breaks here and there along the way, but the combination of creativity, pace and resolve could keep them competitive for a while.

Next on the docket: FCD will hope to make strides away from Frisco when it travels to New England on Saturday afternoon.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659789 Vancouver Whitecaps Vancouver+Whitecaps MLS

Whitecaps boss Martin Rennie faces a selection quandary in central defense after Brad Rusin limped off in the 2-1 defeat at Houston on Saturday. Rusin's knee injury places his availability for this weekend in some doubt. His preferred replacement – Honduran international Johnny Leverón – isn't fit enough to play. To cap off the concerns, regular starter Jay DeMerit isn't due back any time soon after his recent Achilles surgery. Talk about a headache.

Next on the docket: Rennie will reach his decision – likely by sliding Alain Rochat into the middle if Rusin cannot feature – before the Whitecaps take the field at Chivas USA on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659791 Sporting KC Sporting+KC MLS

Sometimes, a team needs to claim a result without any regard for the fare on display. Sporting encountered one of those affairs in its windswept 0-0 draw at New England on Saturday. Neither team offered much in possession, but Sporting's ability to keep the ball out of its own end guaranteed a point on this blustery day.

Next on the docket: Sporting manager Peter Vermes will expect his side to return to its usually tidy work on the ball when league-leading Montréal arrives on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659790 Real Salt Lake Real+Salt+Lake MLS

Álvaro Saborío's temporary absence at FC Dallas removed much of the bite from the RSL attack, but the return of veteran defender Nat Borchers still provided a boost in the 2-0 defeat. The savvy centerback offers a necessary dose of composure and intelligence to a back four that hasn't quite met its usual standards so far this season.

Next on the docket: Borchers and RSL host misfiring Seattle at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31659792 Philadelphia Union Philadelphia+Union MLS

This in-form side used its bye weekend to engage in a pugnacious friendly against Pumas UNAM at PPL Park. Perhaps the frayed encounter will provide the Union with the inspiration required to continue its two-match winning streak this weekend.

Next on the docket: Union coach John Hackworth will hope to see some of that edge when his players take the field at New York on Saturday afternoon.

MLS 195 43 MLS Power Rankings: Week Four 31661526 Columbus Crew Columbus+Crew MLS

Robert Warzycha's side continued its creditable start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory at D.C. United on Saturday. Rafael may have supplied the extra touch of class from distance for United's tally, but Ben Speas and Josh Williams also struck to hand the Crew all three points. A second away win in three attempts bodes well for a group with its sights firmly set on a return to the playoffs.

Next on the docket: The Crew will rest up from its travels (including three road games in March) and wait for Philadelphia to arrive on April 6.
