MLS 195 43 2013 MLS Combine: Prospects proving worth 31536323 Everlasting impressions Everlasting+impressions MLS

The time to impress is over. There is no further evidence to offer after the MLS Player Combine concluded on Tuesday afternoon. Now the potential draft picks – including Louisville defender Andrew Farrell, a player ranked atop many draft boards at the moment – must wait to see if and when they will hear their name called at the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday afternoon in Indianapolis. Several players helped their cases with assured displays during the Combine. Read on to learn a bit more about five players who improved their status over the past couple of days:

In every Combine, a couple of players previously on the fringes of the discussion boost their stock and warrant consideration for a spot in the two-round draft. There were a few candidates to earn that honor here – Boston University midfielder Michael Bustamante and Northeastern forward Don Anding, for example – to fill the role this year, but energetic left back Cochrane may stand to benefit most because he boasts the necessary physical skills to compete at the next level and plays in a position of need for many MLS sides.

MLS coaches and technical staffers are divided about Zavaleta's best spot at the professional level. Zavaleta – a nephew of former US international Greg Vanney – bolstered his stock in both spots by featuring as a forward on the first and third days and slotting into central defense on the second day. By offering solid performances in both positions, the prolific Hoosiers forward likely kept teams interested regardless of their thoughts on his positional quandary.

The speedy forward can point to his Combine performances as a potential turning point in his professional career. After playing well on the first two days and impressing coaches and technical directors from across the league, he signed a contract with MLS on Monday night. The pact likely ensures he will come off the board at some point during the first round on Thursday.

MLS 195 43 2013 MLS Combine: Prospects proving worth 31536318 Carlos Alvarez, M, Connecticut Carlos+Alvarez%2C+M%2C+Connecticut MLS

Alvarez strung together enough silky moments during the first two days to prompt Chivas USA coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola to make a surprising proclamation on Monday: he told he planned to take the Huskies schemer with the second overall pick. The fit makes sense – the Los Angeles native's dad once played for CD Guadalajara – for a team that plans to place an emphasis on technique during its latest overhaul.

MLS 195 43 2013 MLS Combine: Prospects proving worth 31536321 Kyle Bekker, D, Boston College Kyle+Bekker%2C+D%2C+Boston+College MLS

No player looked more ready to step straight into a MLS side than the Canadian youth international did. Bekker controlled the proceedings with his tidy play in midfield and scored a thumping free kick to close out the Combine on Tuesday morning. Throw in the fact that his qualities should translate well to the next level and the former Eagles midfielder will likely hear his name called in the top half of the first round on Thursday.
