Sochaux scored three late goals to claim an unexpected 3-3 draw against European hopefuls Lille at a stunned Stade Lille-Metropole.

Cedric Kante's goal allied to a Vincent Nogueira brace in the final 10 minutes was enough to gain a point for Sochaux after Soloman Kalou's double and a Marko Basa strike had given Rudi Garcia's hosts a comfortable lead.

Despite the draw, the Montbeliard side still face another week in the bottom three of Ligue 1 having won just one game in their previous nine outings, while two dropped points for Lille meant they missed the chance to pull level with third-placed Lyon.

The hosts dominated the first half with Dimitri Payet pulling the strings, and they were denied a penalty when Kalou made the most of a barge in the back.

Payet and Kalou both had efforts before the ex-Chelsea man opened the scoring with 25 minutes played. Payet and Ronny Rodelin combined to pick out Kalou who cut inside before beating Simon Pouplin with a drive from distance.

Lille had a goal ruled out for offside and Marvin Martin hit the crossbar with a free-kick before Kalou doubled his tally just before the break.

Sochaux defender Carlao cleared a dangerous Rodelin cross but only as far as the Ivorian who turned before poking into the top corner.

Les Dogues thought they had secured the three points shortly after the restart when a deflected Rodelin shot fell into the path of Basa who was left the straightforward task of heading the ball beyond Pouplin.

However, Sochaux sprang into life and Giovanni Sio saw an effort turned away by Steeve Elana before Cedric Bakambu was unlucky to see a penalty shout turned down after being brought down by Laurent Bonnart.

The visitors' increased pressure paid off with 10 minutes left when Kante escaped his marker from a free-kick and cleverly slipped the ball beyond Elana.

With the wind in their sails, Sochaux continued to press and pulled another back when Elana allowed a straightforward Noguiera free-kick to get beyond him and, having only just dusted himself down, the 32-year-old keeper was picking the ball back out of the net again moments later.

In almost identical circumstances, Nogueira fired a direct free-kick at goal and once again Elana misjudged the effort and Sochaux claimed an unlikely point.
