Soldado double sinks Vallecano
Roberto Soldado scored twice to lead Valencia to a 4-0 win at Rayo Vallecano Sunday, provisionally lifting the team into fourth place and giving it control of Spain's final Champions League berth.
Valencia moved one point ahead of Real Sociedad before the Basque club hosts Granada on Monday.
Soldado slotted in a penalty in the 28th minute after Jordi Figueras had fouled Dani Parejo in the area. He scored a second goal in the 34th to take his season league tally to 21 goals. Andres Guardado sealed the victory in the 62nd before Nelson Valdes netted in stoppage time.
Also, Real Betis kept Celta Vigo in the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory.
Striker Ruben Castro scored for the 17th time this season from a pass by Javier Chica in the 67th before almost extending the lead when he hit the goal frame.
Barcelona clinched the league title Saturday after Real Madrid drew 1-1 at Espanyol.
Barcelona, Madrid, and Atletico Madrid have already locked up the other three Champions League berths.
