MANCHESTER CITY v REAL MADRID

WHY CITY WILL WIN

The reigning champs need a statement win here to close down a stubbornly effective United side. City still have yet to lose a game in the league this season; moreover, they are nigh unbeatable at home. But this game is their sternest test yet: against an attacking troika of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and either Danny Welbeck or Chicharito, they are sure to have their hands full. Can they maintain their high-flying BPL form? Or is this where the rubber meets the road?

WHY UNITED WILL WIN

How, you ask, is a team with such a lousy defense sitting in first place? United either win games or lose ’em – nothing in-between – and it's because of their saggy midsection. They have been forced to come from behind more times this year to date than nearly all of last season. Their attack is incredible, but their midfield sometimes resembles traffic cones. This is a team with a lot of heart, some real talent, a ton of pride -- and big gaps. Can they get it done over a long season? We’ll see. Right now, City presents a big test for the Red Devils.

HISTORY

This is a can’t-miss game that could decide the Premier League title before Christmas. Hyperbole? No: the Manchester giants are slowly but surely pulling away from the pack and a win here is a massive psychological boost. This isn’t about city bragging rights – it’s about the biggest trophy in England.
