Russian club Anzhi Makhackala says it has signed Guus Hiddink to an 18-month contract.

After signing the contract, Hiddink headed to Turkey where the team was training.

Anzhi is owned by Suleiman Kerimov, a Kremlin-connected billionaire from Dagestan, the Caspian province in southern Russia where the club is based. It signed forward Samuel Eto'o from Inter Milan last summer.

Hiddink coached South Korea to the 2002 World Cup semifinals and Russia to the 2008 European Championship semis. He left Turkey in November after it failed to qualify for this year's Euros.
