Serbia beat the Faeroe Islands 2-0 on an own goal by Jon Roi Jacobsen and a late header from Nikola Zigic in World Cup qualifying on Saturday. Serbia took the lead in the 30th minute when Jacobsen, a Faeroe Islands defender, headed into his own net when trying to clear a cross into the box. Zigic sealed Serbia's lackluster win in the 88th with a long-range header that went under the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Jakup Mikkelsen. The Faeroe Islands defended throughout the Group 7 match that was watched by about 10,000 spectators at Red Star stadium. The Serbs played nervously, rarely creating chances or piercing the packed Faeroe Islands defense. The Faeroe Islands was down to 10 men when Jonas Tor Naes received a second yellow card for a hard tackle in the 85th minute. "It's really hard to play against a team that only defends," Serbia captain Dejan Stankovic said. "But the three points are all that matters." Serbia plays France on Wednesday in a group that also includes Romania, Austria and Lithuania.
