AC Milan have completed the permanent signing of defender Cristian Zapata from Villarreal for an undisclosed fee.

The Colombia international, 26, moved to the San Siro on a season-long loan last summer and his performances for the Rossoneri - who finished third in Serie A - have earned him a three-year contract in northern Italy.

A statement published on acmilan.com read: "AC Milan wishes to communicate they have made the signing of Cristian Zapata from Villarreal permanent.

"The defender's contract will run to June 30, 2016."

Zapata, who previously spent five years in Italy with Udinese, has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Milan.

Duffy, 27, who won five of the Iron's end-of-season awards, has taken up his option of an extra year with the club, but Laws will not stand in the winger's way if Scunthorpe receive an acceptable offer.

"We still don't know anything yet about Mark Duffy," Laws told BBC Radio Humberside. "I've got to say there are one or two players that don't want to be in League Two, so I also don't want to have any players at the club that don't want to be there.

"I can understand Duffy's reasons because he's a player that needs to be playing at a higher level for the age that he is."

Laws added: "We've had interest from Championship clubs.

"The likelihood, hand on heart, is that we will have to sell him, but that will mean that I'll be able to utilise that money to strengthen the team."

Duffy, who signed from Morecambe in January 2011, scored seven goals last season and was the subject of an enquiry from Sheffield United at the turn of the year.
