TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jameis Winston has dominated hitters through the first few weeks of the baseball season.

The Heisman Trophy winner pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning on Sunday afternoon as Florida State defeated Miami 13-6 at Dick Howser Stadium.

Winston shut the door on the Hurricanes as No. 2 Florida State won two of three games and improved to 8-1.

In Saturday's 10-2 Florida State win, Winston had a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning.

Winston also went 0 for 2 in an exhibition game on Tuesday in Tampa against the New York Yankees, taking time to sign autographs for fans and meeting MLB stars like Derek Jeter.

ON THE MOUND

Winston has appeared in four games this season, allowing just a hit, striking out three and walking no batters in five innings. Opposing batters are hitting just .063, the lowest on the team.

AT THE PLATE

He is 2 for 2 this season with a walk and a run scored.

IN THE FIELD

Winston played right field for the final two innings on Saturday but didn't field a ball.
