David Price will be an All-Star for the fourth time.
The Tampa Bay Rays' ace left-hander was named a member of the American League All-Star team Sunday night. He was one of 12 pitchers to be named to the AL team in the game scheduled for 8 p.m. July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Price was the Rays' lone representative to be named Sunday, though reliever Jake McGee (1.17 ERA, four saves, 44 strikeouts) was widely assumed to be a consideration.
Price, the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner, has enjoyed a rise late in the season's first half. Entering a start Sunday night against the Detroit Tigers, he was 7-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 starts. He has 153 strikeouts with just 17 walks. He had five consecutive starts with at least 10 strikeouts from June 4-25. He has eight starts with double-digit strikeouts this season.
Price, 28, has been named an AL All-Star in four of the past five seasons. He appeared in the game each year from 2010 to 2012. The four All-Star Game appearances tie him with former Rays outfielder Carl Crawford for the most in franchise history.
