Miami Dolphins guard Mike Pouncey has been added to the 2015 Pro Bowl as an injury replacement, the NFL announced Saturday.
The four-year pro will make his second consecutive appearance in the Pro Bowl, his first as a guard after switching over from the center position this season.
He becomes the third Dolphins player to make this year’s squad along with defensive end Cameron Wake and cornerback Brent Grimes — the same trio that played in last year’s Pro Bowl. The Dolphins have not sent the same three players to consecutive Pro Bowls since 2003-04, when safety Brock Marion, cornerback Patrick Surtain and linebacker Zach Thomas all represented the team.
Pouncey missed the first four games of the season recovering from offseason hip surgery but played well once he returned. He switched over from center in order for his injury replacement Samson Satele to remain at his position. Though he didn’t have as strong of a season overall as last year, his addition back to the lineup helped fortify a much-improved offensive line and he filled a position of need at right guard.
He will be replacing the injured San Francisco 49ers guard Mike Iupati in the Pro Bowl.
