Orlando Magic rookie guard Victor Oladipo has been selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge as part of NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
Oladipo, the second overall pick in last year's NBA draft, has appeared in all 46 games this season for the Magic, including 27 starts. He is averaging 13.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and a team-high 1.57 steals per game. Among all rookies, Oladipo ranks second in scoring, fourth in rebounding, third in assists, fifth in field-goal percentage, and second in both steals and minutes played.
He was also named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December. The last Magic player to receive that monthly honor was Mike Miller in March 2001.
The Rising Stars Challenge will take place Feb. 14 and will be nationally televised by TNT. The participants will consist of both first- and second-year players selected by the NBA's assistant coaches. The rosters will be finalized following a draft by TNT personalities. Fans will have the opportunity to vote online for who should be in the starting lineup for each team.
