Florida opened at No. 10 and Florida State at No. 12 in the USA Today Sports preseason football coaches poll, which was released on Thursday.
The poll, which is made up of 62 current coaches, placed Florida at No. 10 -- right where the
Gators left off in the final poll last season after a Sugar Bowl loss to Louisville. Florida State finished eighth after an Orange Bowl win over Northern Illinois.
The Gators were among six SEC schools in the top 13 -- No. 1 Alabama led the way, with Georgia in fifth, Texas A&M sixth, South Carolina seventh and LSU at No. 13.
While Florida is ranked 10th, the Gators certainly have a chance to make some noise in the SEC. They will travel to face LSU and South Carolina while a matchup with Georgia will be in Jacksonville.
Florida State will face just two teams that are ranked in the preseason -- No. 8 Clemson and Florida.
One interesting team that is not ranked but could be knocking on the door? Miami, which went 7-5 in 2012 and would have won the ACC's Coastal Division if not for self-imposed penalties. The Hurricanes were named the preseason pick to win the Coastal in 2013 in voting by ACC media members.
The top five teams were Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford and Georgia.
