With Willie Mitchell, Erik Gudbranson ailing, Panthers recall Shane O’Brien

SUNRISE, Fla. — The Florida Panthers have recalled defenseman Shane O’Brien from San Antonio (AHL), the team announced Thursday.

O’Brien, 31, has appeared in 36 games with San Antonio this season, recording 10 goals and 22 points. He has registered one assist in eight games with Florida this season.

An eight-year NHL veteran, O’Brien has notched 13 goals, 79 assists and 916 penalty minutes in 536 career NHL games split between Calgary, Colorado, Nashville, Vancouver, Tampa Bay, Anaheim and Florida.

Panthers defensemen Willie Mitchell and Erik Gudbranson will both miss Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars with flu-like symptoms.
