New Florida International coach Ron Turner already has a mini scandal on his hands.
Over the weekend, a couple of
FIU football players -- redshirt sophomore safety Demarkus Perkins and junior defensive tackle Isame Faciane -- tweeted about taking a prospective recruit to a strip club.
On Monday, the Twitter accounts of both players were shut down, though they remain on the team.
While the NCAA Division I manual doesn't expressly prohibit visits to strip clubs, FIU's visitor packet for student hosts states: “You may not entertain the prospective student-athlete by attending a gentleman’s club or providing an opportunity for a sexual encounter [e.g., strip club, escort service, etc.].”
Turner, who replaced fired Mario Cristobal as Panthers coach in early January,
told The Miami Herald, “Moving forward, I’ll be able to do a better job of picking hosts. Obviously, a couple didn’t do the right job. That’s not something that’s acceptable.”
