With all the attention paid to linebacker newcomers Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler, some might think Koa Misi has been lost in the shuffle.
The Miami Dolphins’ brass certainly doesn’t believe so.
The Dolphins announced Saturday they have extended the linebacker’s contract through the 2017 season.
The 6-foot-3, 254-pound Misi begins Sunday at Cleveland his fourth season with the team. He’s the third starter alongside Ellerbe and Wheeler, who both signed as free agents last spring.
When they signed those two, the Dolphins dumped Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett. So that makes Misi the only returning starter at linebacker.
Misi has played in 42 career games, all with the Dolphins, with 35 starts. Misi, taken with a second-round pick (No. 40 overall) by Miami in the 2010 draft, has 132 career tackles, including nine sacks.
