Dolphins claim FB Tyler Clutts, release Evan Rodriguez

The Dolphins claimed fullback Tyler Clutts from the Texans and released Evan Rodriguez.

Evan Rodriguez's time on the Miami Dolphins' regular-season roster lasted less than 24 hours.

The Dolphins waived Rodriguez and claimed fullback Tyler Clutts off waivers from the Houston Texans, it was announced Sunday.

Clutts had no carries in his first two NFL seasons but caught eight passes for 48 yards.

The 6-foot-2, 254-pound Clutts began his NFL career on the Cleveland Browns practice squad in December 2010. He then played with the Chicago Bears in 2011 before being traded to Houston for cornerback Sherrick McManis on August 31, 2012.

Rodriguez, from Temple, played in 12 games with Chicago last year before beating out Jorvorskie Lane in training camp, during which there was talk the Dolphins might go without a traditional fullback this season.

Also Sunday, defensive tackle A.J. Francis was claimed by the New England Patriots. Francis had been released by Miami on Saturday night but appeared destined to return to the Dolphins' practice squad. The Patriots ended that possibility.
