ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay Rays center fielder Desmond Jennings has a mild left hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day.
Jennings, 26, pulled up after beating out a bunt single in the sixth inning of the Rays’ 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday at Tropicana Field. Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn’t consider the condition “anything awful” and estimated that Jennings could return sometime before they close the regular season Sept. 29 at the Toronto Blue Jays.
“I don’t know when exactly we’ll get him back out,” Maddon said. “But again, tomorrow we’ll re-evaluate and see where he’s at. I asked him today, and he was not overtly sore or hurting at all. But nevertheless, he did feel something.”
Jennings has hit .251 with 14 home runs and 54 RBI this season. He has hit .279 with three home runs and 13 RBI in September.
