1st and 5
• Pennington was next to useless for his owners: 10 touchdowns passes and nine picks last year. The Jets have to be delighted Favre fell into their laps, even if it's only for a year or two.
• Offensive guard Alan Faneca was an excellent signing for the offense, especially the running game. He's a mauler who should help Jones minimally match his 1,119-yard effort from last year.
• The Jets added fullback Tony Richardson to the roster in early March. He's one of the better blocking backs in the league and will be another key addition to the running game.
• Cotchery didn't score very many touchdowns (2), but he made up for it in receivign yardage (1,130). That's not bad, but not very dominant fantasy-wise. Favre isn't a permanent solution at quarterback, but he'll surely help Cotchery's cause.
• Coles scores only six touchdowns last and tallied 646 receiving yards last year. He's never been a dominant fantasy wideout; you'd be better off with him as your No. 3 if you can swing it.
Draft
The Jets used the sixth overall pick in the draft on linebacker Vernon Gholston, but they liked Keller enough to trade back into the bottom of the first round to land him.Remember, Keller is a converted wide receiver; he will be able to use his speed to get past a few linebackers in coverage. He could be something of a sleeper, but will any of the quarterbacks actually be able to get him the ball? Not to mention, with both Baker and the newly acquired Franks on the depth chart, it's a bit murky who will actually win the starting role. Any one of those three has a realistic shot.
