Survive and advance is a popular sports mantra normally saved for the month of March and the madness that comes with it.

But thanks to the rapid growth of the NFL and fantasy football, games like FOX Fantasy Survivor can feed your craving for “win or go home” competition seven months early.

Thousands of football fans signed up and participated in the FOX Fantasy Survivor game last season. The hope is, with cash prizes on the line, we can eclipse that mark in 2012.

The premise is simple: pick one (1) team who you believe is going to win that week. The survivor catch remains that once you pick a team to win, you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season.  The good news is, even if you lose, you are still eligible to win cash prizes.

To assist you with your survivor selections, the’s fantasy football staff will provide you their picks for the week.

Just remember the mantra: survive and advance. In three months, you could be $2,000 richer.

Week 8 Recap

Fowler - Giants (How good was New York's defense and/or how bad was Tony Romo?  Well, it's not often that Eli Manning passes for under 200 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, the running game averages under 4.0 yards per carry and the Giants win.  Dallas had 28 first downs compared to the Giants 11 and they STILL lost!)

Halpin and Beall - Packers (It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.  Green Bay was forced to run the ball more than the like to and Alex Green's 22 carries for 54 yards left little to be desired.  Allowing Blaine Gabbert to throw for over 300 yards goes to show you how much that secondary misses Charles Woodson already.)

Harmon - Bears (Robbie Gould was the hero of the day, but let's not ignore the fact Chicago allowed Cam Newton to pass for over 300 yards and the Bears were *this close* to losing to a reeling Panthers' team who fired their general manager earlier in the week.  It's another great example of how tough pro football survivor pools can be on any given Sunday.)

Week 9 Picks

Fowler and Beall - Broncos over Bengals

Remember when Peyton Manning's neck was an issue?  Neither do we.  Since Week 2, when he three three interceptions against the Falcons, Manning has thrown 14 touchdowns and one interception.  This week he travels to Cincinnati, the Bengals coming off the bye, where a young offense has lost its swagger and in the midst of a three-game skid.  With the Broncos' defense locking down Drew Brees and a high-powered Saints' offense last Sunday night, Andy Dalton should be on high alert.

Halpin - Seahawks over Vikings

Two above-average defenses were exposed in Week 8.  Last Thursday, Minnesota's defense was torched at home by Josh Freeman and Doug Martin.  Three days later, Seattle allowed a struggling Matthew Stafford to throw for over 350 yards with four total touchdowns.  The Vikings are in worse shape heading into Week 9 as nobody wants to play in Seattle with the 12th Man bearing down for 60 minutes.

Harmon - Texans over Bills

Houston and Buffalo both enjoyed their BYES in Week 8.  Three weeks ago, the Texans took one on the chin via Aaron Rodgers six-touchdown performance during a 42-24 blowout loss to the Packers.  However, they came back the following week and took their frustration out on a beat up Baltimore squad (won 42-13).  As for Buffalo, they've been anything but consistent in 2012.  They excel in the rushing game.  If only Houston wasn't one of the best in the league in stopping it.
