Fantasy football Week 7 saw several impact players go down due to injury.  When you combine that with six NFL teams on BYE Week 8, owners are going to be sprinting to the waiver wire.  Here are the injuries to know about and my top options on the waiver wire (if applicable):

Sam Bradford - torn ACL - out for season

  • Kellen Clemens only other QB on Rams' roster
  • Expect team to sign somebody this week
  • The Rams' starting QB Week 8 faces Seattle - no fun

Jay Cutler - groin tear - on BYE Week 8

  • Jay Glazer reports Cutler is out at least four weeks
  • Luke McCown replaces him behind center
  • McCown has been in the league 11 years
  • He's passed for 38 TDs and 44 INT while completing 58 percent of his passes

Nick Foles - concussion

  • After the disappointing effort by Foles against the Cowboys, expect Mike Vick behind center Week 8 against the Giants

Widely Available Fantasy QB Waiver Wire Targets

  1. Mike Glennon vs. CAR
  2. Alex Smith vs. CLE
  3. Josh Freeman vs. GB
  4. Terrelle Pryor vs. PIT

Running Backs

Doug Martin - shoulder tear - reports suggest he's done for the season

  • Rookie Mike James would be the next back up in Tampa Bay with Brian Leonard providing support

Brandon Jacobs - hamstring - doubtful Monday night vs. Vikings

  • Rookie Michael Cox and just-signed Peyton Hillis are all that's left of the Giants' backfield at the moment
  • Keep tabs on Andre Brown - he's got job security once he returns from the short-term IR

Jonathan Stewart - ankle - could come off PUP this week

Steven Jackson - hamstring

  • Jay Glazer reported Sunday that SJax suffered a setback in his rehab late last week
  • Expected to return Week 8
  • With the way Jacquizz Rodgers has performed the last two games - 36 fantasy points - the RBBC should be in full force

Arian Foster - hamstring - Ben Tate - four broken ribs

  • Texans on BYE Week 8
  • Texans cut Cierre Wood

Widely Available Fantasy RB Waiver Wire Targets

  1. Mike James
  2. Chris Ivory
  3. Zac Stacy
  4. Michael Cox
  5. Roy Helu (vulture threat)

Wide Receivers

Reggie Wayne - torn ACL - done for season

  • Points-per-reception leagues are impacted more than standard leagues by Wayne's injury
  • He was averaging 8.4 fantasy points per game in standard leagues (before Week 7).  Torrey Smith was ahead and Eric Decker was behind him in wide-receiver scoring.
  • Owners can replace him in fantasy lineups with more ease than most NFL WR1
  • Darrius Heyward-Bey expects to emerge as the top target in Indy to start, but owners are well aware of T.Y. Hilton's deep threat production

Miles Austin - hamstring

  • Could be shutdown the rest of the season
  • Terrance Williams emergence in Cowboys passing game has made this an easier decision for the Cowboys
