2013 Fantasy Football: Top 5 RBs

My 2013 fantasy football top five running backs are:

1) Adrian Peterson

  • Averaged 19.2 fantasy points per game in 2012
  • Finished with 307 fantasy points – next closest RB, Doug Martin with 262
  • Finished with 2,097 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns (6.0 YPR)
  • It’s his offense – not Christian Ponder’s and Greg Jennings’

2) Doug Martin

  • Finished with 1,454 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns in 2012
  • Averaged 16.4 fantasy points per game
  • Finished with five games with 95 or more yards
  • Also chipped in 472 receiving yards
  • No threat of RBBC (running back by committee)

3) Arian Foster

  • A slight health risk is the only reason Foster fell to No. 3
  • Averaged 16.4 fantasy points per game last season
  • Finished with 351 carries for 1,424 yards with 15 TDs (led all RBs)

4) Marshawn Lynch

  • The good news: Lynch has scored double-digit touchdowns in back-to-back seasons with an average of 300 carries in each (15.3 FPPG)
  • The bad news: Russell Wilson and Percy Harvin could limit his touches in 2013
  • The good news: he can rely on other members of the Seahawks’ offense to move the chains and can save his body inside the 10 yard line

5) Ray Rice

  • Took a step back from 2012 fantasy production, but still rushed for 1,1143 yards, 478 receiving yards with 10 touchdowns (13.8 FPPG)
  • Joe Flacco just got paid the big bucks and Rice’s role is cloudier than in year’s past
  • Bernard Pierce showcased his skills in the 2012 playoffs, so any type of slow start by Rice could turn the Baltimore backfield into a RBBC
