2013 AFC West Fantasy Storylines

Fowler analyzes three fantasy football storylines coming out of the AFC West in 2013.

Here are three 2013 fantasy football storylines coming out of the AFC West I'll be paying attention to during training camp and through the end of August:

1) Should the addition of Andy Reid and Alex Smith make Jamaal Charles' owners nervous?

  • Short answer: NO!
  • Despite Reid's reputation as a quarterback's best friend, remember what a healthy LeSean McCoy was able to do within Reid's offense
  • Look for Charles' carries to level out, but his versatility in the passing game make him a viable fantasy option again

2) Should fantasy owners trust Darren McFadden in 2013?

  • Short answer: NO!
  • He has not played in all 16 games in any NFL season
  • Only has one 1,000-yard campaign on his resume
  • New quarterback adds wrinkle

3) What is the fantasy value of the 2013 San Diego Chargers?

  • Ryan Mathews' injury history and the addition of Danny Woodhead as a third-down back leave his fantasy value no better than a low-end RB2 in my opinion
  • Could Philip Rivers improve with an improved offense line in San Diego?
  • Could Vincent Brown and Danario Alexander emerge as top receiving options over Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates?
