The bye weeks are over, the playoffs are a week away (in most head-to-head formats), and the waiver wire options are scarce. But, I’ll sift through the rough and pick out a few diamonds.

QB – Josh McCown, Bears (owned in 8.6 percent of leagues)

The Minnesota secondary is awful. Last week, I suggested picking up Scott Tolzien. He and Matt Flynn combined for over 27 fantasy points against the Vikings. As of today (Tuesday), it sounds like Josh McCown will get another start. Even in a blowout loss to the Rams, McCown threw for 352 yards and two TDs. Minnesota has allowed the most passing touchdowns (24) this season and the fourth-most passing yards per game (282).

RB – Toby Gerhart, Vikings (1.8 percent)

As an investor of Adrian Peterson, I’ve been eyeing the stat line on Minnesota’s rushing attack. Over the past two weeks, Toby Gerhart has tallied 15 rushing attempts and 170 total yards. Though the Vikings aren’t officially eliminated from a postseason opportunity, the odds are dwindling. Gerhart could be a solid addition to your roster when the fantasy playoffs come and Minnesota decides to rest Peterson.

WR – Michael Floyd, Cardinals (32.6 percent)

I was shocked to see how low Michael Floyd was owned in fantasy leagues. Larry Fitzgerald might lead the Cardinals in receptions and touchdowns, but Floyd has more receiving yards. Also, Floyd has recorded over 100 receiving yards in back-to-back games. This week, his team faces the Eagles who are allowing 29.4 points per game to opposing receivers, the most in the league.

WR – Nate Burleson, Lions (4.3 percent)

Some owners pulled the trigger and started Nate Burleson his first week back from the infamous car accident and he delivered. Against the Buccaneers, he caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Calvin Johnson will get double and eventually triple-teamed in coverage leaving Burleson one-on-one with his defender.

TE – Zach Ertz, Eagles (1 percent)

It’s the weekly “which tight end is facing the Cardinals?” update: Brent Celek and Zach Ertz. With Arizona allowing the most points to opposing TEs, including one touchdown per game, both players are tempting. However, the odds are better that Ertz is available, so I’m advising that you pick him up before your competition does.
