Sammy Watkins Buf - WR
News: Watkins is questionable to return Thursday night due to a rib injury, the Bills' official site reports. (Aug 28)
Impact: Watkins took a hit to the chest while coming across the middle Thursday night, and as expected, it sounds like he's re-injured the previous ailment in his rib area. This clouds his status a bit for Week 1, but the team should provide further information following the game. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 7:42p ET)

Josh Gordon Cle - WR
News: Gordon has been suspended for one year by the NFL for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Albert Breer report. (Aug 27)
Impact: Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, with the league's ruling on the matter having now been upheld on appeal, Gordon will be eligible to apply for reinstatement with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell one year from now. Gordon's 2014 fantasy utility is obviously gone with the news, unless he were able to sue the NFL for an injunction, staying the suspension. If Gordon declines to file suit, or the court rejects it, you can safely drop him, but otherwise wait a couple days until his legal options have been ruled out. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 12:56p ET)

Sam Bradford StL - QB
News: Head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Sunday that Bradford will miss the entire 2014 season with a torn left ACL. (Aug 24)
Impact: An MRI taken Sunday revealed the tear in Bradford's knee, and Fisher left no doubt that Bradford's season is over. Shaun Hill is next in line to take over as the Rams' starting quarterback. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 6:40p ET)

Matt Prater Den - K
News: Prater will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, the Denver Post reports. (Aug 24)
Impact: The suspension was alcohol-related, the Post reports. Prater has been in the league's alcohol program since he was charged with a DUI in 2011. With Prater suspended, it's not clear if Denver will stick with backup kicker Mitch Ewald or sign a veteran for the first four games. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 2:48a ET)

Wes Welker Den - WR
News: Welker (head) has been diagnosed with a concussion, Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports. (Aug 24)
Impact: While never to be taken lightly, concussions are a particularly serious issue for Welker, who suffered two toward the end of last season. With the diagnosis confirmed after Saturday's game, the veteran slot man now looks shaky for Week 1. If Welker can't go, Andre Caldwell and/or Cody Latimer could see more playing time in three and four-wide sets, with Emmanuel Sanders quite possibly taking on some of Welker's targets. Sam Bradford StL - QB
News: Bradford, who will undergo further testing Sunday, "dodged a bullet" when an initial evaluation Saturday showed no damage to the ACL in his left knee, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. (Aug 23)
Impact: Removed from Saturday's preseason tilt in Cleveland after taking a hit, Bradford displayed an evident limp before heading to the locker room. He seemingly avoided the worst of the worst, but there has been no timetable given for his eventual return to action. In the meantime, Shaun Hill will be behind center in St. Louis. Geno Smith NYJ - QB
News: Smith will start the Jets' Week 1 game against the Raiders, NFL Network's Albert Breer reports. (Aug 23)
Impact: Not that anything else was expected, but the Jets made an announcement following Friday's preseason game, during which Smith completed 9-of-14 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. Both Smith and Mike Vick have played reasonably well this preseason, a scenario that always figured to end with the youngster starting. Smith may have a hard time carrying his success into the games that count, but his early-season schedule looks favorable from a fantasy perspective, and his supporting cast has been upgraded from last year. Chad Henne Jac - QB
News: Speaking after Friday's preseason game against the Lions, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley reiterated that Henne will be the team's Week 1 starter, reports. (Aug 23)
Impact: Henne completed 9-of-14 passes for 70 yards, turning in a sup-par and uninteresting performance. Bortles provided far more entertainment by going 10-for-16 with 158 yards and a touchdown, but his night would have been much different had the Lions defenders made more of their multiple interception opportunities. Still, Bortles has been the better of the two this preseason, yet the Jags are sticking to their word. The team previously indicated that it wants Bortles to be a spectator for most of his rookie season, and while that may still be true, Henne will likely test their patience. It would be one thing to sit through an entire season of Henne's struggles if Bortles had looked awful this preseason, but it will be hard to justify after the rookie played with surprising poise. LeSean McCoy Phi - RB
News: Updating a previous report, X-rays on McCoy's right thumb came back negative, and he has been diagnosed with a sprained right thumb, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. (Aug 21)
Impact: McCoy won't return to Thursday night's game as a precaution, but he looks to have avoided any serious injuries. It wouldn't be surprising to see him sit the final preseason game as well, but his Week 1 availability currently doesn't appear to be in question. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 8:49p ET)

Le'Veon Bell Pit - RB
News: Bell and teammate LeGarrette Blount will be charged with marijuana possession, with Bell also charged with DUI, following a traffic stop Wednesday, reports. (Aug 20)
Impact: According to the report, Bell and Blount were caught with 20 grams of marijuana, and a woman in the vehicle was also charged with possession. With Bell behind the wheel, he was taken to a hospital to have blood drawn for a possible DUI. If charged, both players will be subject to the league's substance abuse policy. Bell has a clean record but Blount may be on shaky ground, perhaps opening the door for Dri Archer to see reps with the first-team. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 7:49p ET)

Johnny Manziel Cle - QB
News: Brian Hoyer was named the Browns' starting quarterback Wednesday morning over Manziel by coach Mike Pettine, ESPN reports. (Aug 20)
Impact: The team sounds like it will give Hoyer a bit of a leash as Pettine said he doesn't want the veteran constantly looking over his shoulder, but we have to imagine Hoyer - and maybe the Browns as well - has to be mildly successful to keep the team from firing up the Manziel era. That said, given the rebuilding nature of the team and Manziel's exciting skill set, he has to be one of the better backup fantasy values on the QB board. However, his opening season value just took a hit Wednesday morning. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 9:17a ET)

Jamaal Charles KC - RB
News: Charles, who is dealing with a bruised foot, will be held out of Sunday's preseason contest against the Panthers for precautionary reasons, BJ Kissel of reports. (Aug 17)
Impact: We'll monitor Charles' status in the coming days, but at first glance, this doesn't appear to be a major concern for the Chiefs' star running back, per Adam Teicher of With Charles out, the likes of Knile Davis, Cyrus Gray, De'Anthony Thomas and Charcandrick West are in line to handle the team's rushing duties Sunday. Dwayne Bowe KC - WR
News: Bowe (finger) has been suspended for one game and will miss the Chiefs' season opener against the Titans, reports. The report notes that the suspension stems from a Nov. 10, 2013 incident in which the wideout was pulled over in Riverside, Mo., for speeding and possession of marijuana. (Aug 15)
Impact: Bowe, who has been hampered in training camp by a finger issue, will thus be eligible to return to action in Week 2 against the Broncos, at which time, he should resume his starting wideout duties for the Chiefs. In the team's opener, suggests that Junior Hemingway is a candidate to start opposite Donnie Avery in Bowe's place. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 12:32p ET)

Marvin Jones Cin - WR
News: The Bengals hope that Jones (foot) will be ready to play following their Week 4 bye, NFL Network's Albert Breer reports. (Aug 11)
Impact: Jones was diagnosed with a broken foot Monday afternoon, which is expected to keep him out for several weeks. There was a previous risk of him beginning the 2014 season on the PUP list, but this report suggests that the Bengals don't plan on going that route. This is actually good news for owners who drafted Jones, as a PUP tag would mean a mandatory absence for the team's first six games. He'll now target a return on Oct. 5 against New England, but that will depend largely on the recovery of his surgically-repaired foot. Mohamed Sanu should see additional reps in the absence of Jones, while tight ends Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert may also see extra balls thrown their way when top wideout A.J. Green is buried in coverage. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 8:22p ET)

Johnny Manziel Cle - QB
News: The Browns coaching staff will meet Sunday to discuss when Manziel will get reps with the starters, the Akron Beacon-Journal reports. (Aug 2)
Impact: Manziel has worked with the second-team offense thus far, but it makes sense for Cleveland to give him at least a portion of the first-team reps. The rookie reportedly outplayed Brian Hoyer on Saturday, but a single practice isn't all that meaningful in the grand scheme of things. Far more significant are the comments made by head coach Mike Pettine after Saturday's practice. According to Pettine, "When camp began, Brian was [with] the ones because we had to put somebody out there with the ones. But they were truly competing against each other, and at some point we will mix the units. I think that it's all part of our evaluation process." (Source: RotoWire / Time: 8:39p ET)

Steven Jackson Atl - RB
News: Jackson was excused from Tuesday's practice due to a left hamstring injury, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Coach Mike Smith is optimistic that he will be available for Week 1 of the regular season. (Jul 29)
Impact: It was an injury to the right hamstring that cost Jackson four games last season, with the historically-durable back finishing with the lowest rushing total and average yards per carry of his career. Despite his coach's encouraging outlook, it's difficult to bank on Jackson reemerging as a 1,000-yard rusher as he enters his age-31 season. In addition to the injury concern that will likely result in an abbreviated training camp along with last season's decline in productivity, Jackson may lose carries during the upcoming season to backup Jacquizz Rodgers and rookie Devonta Freeman, both of whom have significantly less tread on their tires. David Wilson NYG - RB
News: Wilson (neck) went to the hospital after exiting Tuesday's practice with a burner, receiving "a battery of tests and a complete workup", ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. (Jul 29)
Impact: The Giants are gravely concerned that Wilson aggravated the neck injury that cost him 11 games in 2013, potentially putting his status for the upcoming season on thin ice. It's especially troubling that the neck issue resurfaced during a non-contact drill, when Wilson ran into the back of an offensive lineman. At this point, the Giants can only hold their breath and hope for good results from the tests, but suffice to say, Wilson likely won't see the practice field for at least a few days, even in a best-case scenario. Wilson's absence will pave the way for Peyton Hillis and Andre Williams to warrant a longer look in camp behind presumptive starter Rashad Jennings. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 5:03p ET)

Kelvin Benjamin Car - WR
News: Benjamin, who bumped knees with another player during Sunday's practice, is slated to undergo an MRI on his left knee, the Associated Press reports. (Jul 28)
Impact: Steve Reed of the Associated Press suggests that Benjamin's MRI is not expected to reveal a serious issue, but coach Ron Rivera is expected to address the wideout's injury after Monday's practice, which Benjamin is not attending. The first-rounder has reportedly looked good while working with the Panthers' starters early on in training camp, so the team is no doubt hoping that Benjamin's injury is nothing major, given his projected role in the team's retooled receiving corps. LaMichael James SF - RB
News: James is expected to miss about a month with what's Ian Rapoport reports is a dislocated elbow. (Jul 27)
Impact: With Marcus Lattimore currently on the non-football injury list and Kendall Hunter having torn his ACL, the 49ers' running back ranks continue thin out, which leaves Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde as the team's top two healthy backfield options at the moment. Cecil Shorts III Jac - WR
News: Shorts (hamstring) is expected to miss the first few weeks of training camp, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports. (Jul 26)
Impact: After dealing with various injuries the past two seasons, Shorts tweaked his hamstring at the very beginning of training camp. While the issue isn't considered to be all that serious, the fourth-year wideout enters 2014 with a number of concerns. Not only is he stuck in what figures to be a poor offense, but Shorts is coming off a disappointing campaign, while the Jaguars drafted both Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee in the second round of May's draft. Having said all that, Shorts has shown impressive big-play ability at times, and he's easily the Jaguars' most experienced wide receiver. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 12:27p ET)

Kendall Hunter SF - RB
News: Hunter has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports. (Jul 26)
Impact: MRI results confirmed the 49ers' worst fears, ruling Hunter out for the entire 2014 season. Rookie second-round pick Carlos Hyde and 2013 fourth-round pick Marcus Lattimore (knee/hamstring) will likely be asked to fill the void behind Frank Gore. With the 49ers favoring a run-heavy approach and already expected to utilize multiple running backs, Hyde has an excellent opportunity. There's a much higher degree of uncertainty concerning Lattimore, who has yet to prove that he's fully recovered from the devastating knee injury he suffered back at South Carolina in 2012. LaMichael James and Jewel Hampton round out the depth chart at running back, and while the 49ers seemingly wanted James to focus on the return game, Hunter's injury may change that sentiment. Vick Ballard Ind - RB
News: Ballard has a torn Achilles, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. (Jul 25)
Impact: He was carted off the field earlier Friday, and this is certainly the worst possible outcome for Ballard and the Colts. He was in the mix at running back, but it's now a distinct two-man competition between Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw. Ballard will likely miss the entire 2014-15 season, and this bolsters the value of the Colts' other main running backs. (Source: RotoWire / Time: 6:18p ET)
