NFL training camp injury report fantasy football impact Ballard, Hunter & Shorts

Training camps are open, players are hurt and that impacts fantasy football draft season.

eNFL training camps haven't been open a week, but fantasy football players have already hit the shelf due to injuries.

LaMichael James (Dislocated Elbow)

Out a month and the window of opportunity to work himself into the 49ers RB rotation closes.

Vick Ballard (Achilles)

Ballard missed most of the 2013 season with a torn ACL.  The torn Achilles is the opposite leg.  Ballard was competing with Trent Richardson (RB29) and Ahmad Bradshaw (RB51) for touches this season.  The injury to Ballard provides T-Rich a little more slack if he starts the season off slow.  Bradshaw is coming off neck surgery in 2013, but has been cleared to play.

Kendall Hunter (ACL)

Hunter tore his ACL in practice on Friday.  It's the second time he's torn an ACL since 2012, but this time it was the other knee.  Reports over the last few months suggested Frank Gore was going to see a reduction in touches this season with Hunter benefiting the most.  Now, with Marcus Lattimore on the PUP list and LaMichael James (dislocated elbow 7/27) unhappy with his role (at least prior to the Hunter injury), rookie Carlos Hyde now has an opportunity to become Gore's primary back-up.  Although it will also be interesting to see how the 49ers handle James' unhappiness with their need for depth at RB2 and RB3.

Cecil Shorts (hamstring)

Shorts missed OTA's and minicamp for the same reason and is expected to miss several weeks nursing his hamstring strain.  This will allow the Jaguars' staff to get a better look at rookie receivers Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson.
