Fantasy Baseball Buzz: Braves cross fingers on Medlen

Braves SP Kris Medlen will have an MRI today after leaving his Sunday start with a forearm strain. From the team’s website: "While there is a chance Medlen will learn he needs to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in less than four years, the Braves are hoping for the best and hanging on to the optimism that they gathered after Mets physician Dr. Struan Coleman examined the pitcher Sunday afternoon." Let’s hope Medlen is OK and back on the mound soon.

Nationals SP Doug Fister was scratched from his Friday start due to elbow discomfort. The Nats say they aren’t concerned.

2016 Fantasy Baseball Draft Prep

Dodgers OF Matt Kemp "appears to be within a month" of returning to action for the Dodgers, according to the team’s website. Like, real action in a real game that will help your real fantasy stats.

The White Sox closer competition is finally ready to begin, as Nate Jones (glute) pitched in a game on Saturday, and Ronald Belisario (visa issues) might do the same by Thursday. Jones is the apparent favorite over Belisario and Matt Lindstrom (oblique).

The Royals have lost setup man Luke Hochevar to Tommy John surgery.

The Reds think that SP Mat Latos (knee) might be ready for Opening Day.

The Orioles are pleased with the recovery progress of 3B Manny Machado, and it sounds like a mid-April return is possible.

Here’s an update on the Rays’ fifth-starter battle. More news coming when fewer than four guys are in the mix.

Jon Paul Morosi thinks that Pirates OF prospect Gregory Polanco might be ready for the big leagues. The Bucs have suggested that Polanco will start the season in Triple A, but you never know.

Indians manager Terry Francona is pleased with the development of SP Trevor Bauer. Bauer will probably start the season in the minors, but keep an eye on him. Not long ago, he was a HUGE prospect, and he’s only 23.

Twins OF Byron Buxton has officially been reassigned to minor-league camp. He could be up this season, but it won’t be for Opening Day.

The Cardinals have signed Cuban SS Aledmys Diaz to a four-year contract. Diaz showed decent power and speed in Cuba, but let’s see how he does in the minor leagues before getting excited.
