Starting pitcher is another position where fantasy owners should strike early, but for a different reason – after the initial top tier the quality really dips. Once the top 15 or so come off the board you’re getting into riskier prospects like Zach Greinke, Danny Salazar, and Dallas Keuchel. It should be noted that it is entirely possible these three pitchers have wonderful 2017 seasons and rebound from their inconsistencies of last year, but they involve a much larger amount of risk than their top tier counterparts. In short: if you have the chance to nab one of the top guys like Kershaw, Scherzer, or Bumgarner, don’t be afraid to take them early. There are plenty of opportunities to find offense later.
