Taillon (elbow) was added to the 40-man roster Thursday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Taillon underwent Tommy John surgery last April after initially hoping rest would do the job. The Pirates were forced to add him to the 40-man roster to avoid the risk of losing him to Rule 5 draft. He pitched at both Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis in 2013, posting a 3.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while posting a 37:16 K/BB ratio over 37 innings with the Triple-A club. Taillon will likely miss the beginning of the season, and his timetable for returning is unclear at this point.
